Our Website explores the cultivation and celebration of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices of every kind. We do so not only by addressing the everyday questions that arise about produce, like "What should we have for dinner tonight?" but we also  broaden our scope by examining our profound dependence upon these foods for human survival. Thus, we also investigate the scientific, theoreticial and consequential  research that addresses the far-reaching agricultural,  ecological, even philosophical and ethical challenges that we, as an earth-bound and soil-dependent people, face into the future.

Our main emphases is informed by many years of experience in marketing -- the buying and selling of  fresh produce via a family-owned produce market in Southern California.  And, although the actual market has closed its doors, the knowledge that resulted lives on!  And thus, we impart that accumulated understanding to our visitors here in these pages. Other associates are experienced in backyard, city gardening.  Others have studied and taught ecology and environmental philosophy. Still others have backgrounds and interests in the culinary arts.  All of us contribute in our own way to this important endeavor.

As you explore our site, you will see that we present a wide range of inqueries that are bound together, perhaps by a single, but profound question:  how do we feed ourselves with food that is fresh, nutritionally powerful and deliciously gratifying? Of course, this question asks a thousand more questions which is why our investigation continues to deepen and grow.

So, enjoy and thank-you for visiting! Join us in finding helpful and satisfying information in our continuing exploration of the wonderful world of produce.

And, Happy Summer!

Produce with Appeal: The Story of Top Banana

Tob Banana Employee Party

Top Banana Produce began in Alhambra, CA, in 1973 and moved to Buena Park in 1979. For thirty-eight years, Top Banana not only provided basic nutritional food at affordable prices, but the company also offered first-time job opportunities for hundreds of young people fresh out of high school looking for work. Read the first-hand account by Nicholas Reiner of what it was like to be a part of one of Southern California's great produce markets.
