Olericulture

Olericulture

The study of Olericulture focuses research on the science of produce production, specifically upon non-woody (herbaceous) plants humans use for food:

  • Bulbs & Root Crops - These include the onions, leeks, garlic, fennel, carrots, beets, and radishes.
  • Cole Crops - These include the cabbages, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and broccoli.
  • Cucurbits - These are mostly vine fruit plants, including cucumbers, edible gourds like winter and summer squash, edible melons and watermelon.
  • Dark Greens - These include spinach, kale, collards.
  • Legumes -  These include beans and peas.
  • Salads - These include the leafy lettuces.
  • Solanaceous Crops - These include the nightshades like eggplants, peppers, potatoes, and tomatoes.

"Where are the fruits?" you might ask. That is a related field of study called Pomology
